Best Baby Medical Forehead and Ear Thermometer – 2017 Mom’s Pick

When your baby gets sick, it’s important to know if a fever has set in—and if so, how high. Running a temperature for more than three days, for example, is a sign that it’s time to talk to your doctor, and temperatures above 104°F can cause seizures in young children. That’s why having a good thermometer that provides accurate readings is key. For babies under 3 months old, temperatures should be taken rectally, and any fever in this age group warrants a call to the doctor.

But with so many types of thermometers on the market—from infrared to digital stick thermometers—it can be difficult to know what kind to choose.

We Geter some Reviews from experienced Moms and this is what they have to say:

(1) Digital Baby Oral & Rectal Thermometer

“This thermometer by iProven has some great features for new parents and babies alike. It is waterproof. It is comfortable for children, due to its tiny tip. Reading a temperature is quick., as results show in as little as ten seconds. It gives accurate readings should you have any concern that there is a possible illness. The last reading is kept in memory so that you can track the course of a fever. This information can prove vital for caregivers.
The iProven is loud enough to be heard by the person administering the temperature reading but is quiet enough that it will not unduly upset the baby, nor disturb others in the household.
This thermometer is suitable for either oral or rectal use. It works for people of any age. I read that some people use it quite successfully as a pet thermometer. All in all, the iProven is an excellent choice. If there is any buyer’s remorse, they have a 100% warranty for up to 100 days from the date of purchase.”

This thermometer is just like the one used by my kids’ pediatrician. I love that you have two options for taking temperature–one way is via the ear canal, the other way is by scanning both temples and the middle of the forehead. This thing is so simple to use and only takes a second to get a digital reading via the ear canal or about three seconds by the forehead method. I highly, highly recommend this thermometer, especially if you have little ones.”

“I received the product on time. It came in early in fact. It works great and was used immediately as my son and I had colds. It’s fast, easy and reliable. It’s easy to clean and comes with a plastic case. I know some people are very particular about their choice in thermometers and I think this would meet their requirements. Inexpensive and good quality.”

(4) Infanttech Smarttemp – Bluetooth Baby Thermometer

Price: $69.90
Owners: Infanttech
Overall Mom’s Rank: 85 out of 100

Mom Review

“This thermometer is the best one I have found so far. I love how my children can wear it during the night so I don’t have to wake them to take their temps when they’re sick. The only issue I had was keeping the connection between the device and my phone at certain times. However, I was able to be in the living room directly below my son’s bedroom and was still able to get his temp from downstairs. Love it and would absolutely recommend it.”

“I am a crazy first-time mom and use this thermometer almost daily (every time he feels warm or has diarrhea or a slightly red hang nail). The thermometer is easy to set up, easy and quick to use and I love that I can create profiles for all family members and store temps and symptoms in my phone (ideal for answering dr questions while sleep deprived). The kinsa support is also helpful- I emailed with a question in regards to if I need to add a degree for auxiliary temps (under the arm) or if it is calibrated to do so already (because you can choose to take oral, underarm, or rectal temp). They responded back in under 24 hours saying I do not need to add a degree for underarm temps, the app does not add a degree for auxiliary temps but is set up to recognize a temp of 99.4 as a fever (in infants under three months) whereas the rectal temp is set up to recognize a fever at 100.4.
I love the kinsa thermometer so much I also bought it for a friend who is also a first-time mom and I have also bought the ear thermometer for when my little one is over 6 months and for my husband and me to use (ear thermometer reads much quicker than the stick).
All in all, this is an amazing product. I will probably purchase this item for every expecting friend.”

“This is my third forehead/infrared/in-ear thermometer and it is the most accurate thermometer I’ve ever used. I compared the readings from this thermometer with readings from a traditional in-mouth thermometer and the accuracy is almost 100%. The Bluetooth integration with my iPhone is nice to have but I don’t always use it. Battery life has been superb.

Cons: I wish it came with a protective stand or case. I also wish the app would record consecutive readings without requiring me to tap each time I take a reading.”

(7) 3 in 1 Non-contact Infrared Forehead Thermometer for Baby

Very Accurate! easy to use, long battery life as long as case doesn’t press against on button. I took out the plastic insert, using a microfiber wash cloth in same case which protects it from being loose in case & not truing on as it was with the plastic insert it came with. Make sure it comes to room temp prior to use, I get abnormally high readings if it has been cold. this was more accurate than my temporal scanner”

  • I found the idea of the thermometer that goes to your phone super awesome!! That would be so convenient!! Thanks for the great info. As a mother this was very helpful. 🙂

  • These reviews were very informative. I had no idea there were so many different thermometers.
Moms have a good variety and price range to choose from.

  • Figuring out which is the best thermometer has honestly been the hardest task I’ve had as far as making purchases for my baby. I ended up buying a cheap underarm thermometer for the time being and have still been searching for a good quality one. I had no idea they can connect to apps on your phone (this shouldn’t surprise me in todays climate!), and I like this idea very much. Thank you for laying all the options out for me, I found this very useful!

  • This is awesome. I had the devil of a time when my son was young finding accurate thermometers that didn’t require me to wake him up to use one. When your child is autistic, it is best to leave them sleeping when they actually manage to fall asleep. Thanks for doing this research.

With my first child I had a thermometer for everything. Bath, room, milk, ear….

I like the idea of having one for everything and probably more accurate than the ones I have already. Thanks for the reviews, I’m pregnant with my second child and its great to see what is out there at the moment.
